According to Michel Foucault, “The violence of the state is nothing other than the irruptive manifestation, in a way, of its own reason”. This edition looks at state violence through the lens of several photographers: Kurt Caviezel, Adam Harvey, Broomberg & Chanarin, Paolo Ciro, James Bridle, Clément Lambelet, and Jules Spinatsch. Images of crowds of protestors, militarised police ranks, clouds of tear gas, anonymising masks, umbrellas as shielding, street arrests, and violence in the urban setting fill the pages. Each issue of the magazine revolves around the intersection of two cultures: West and East. Two sets of editorial staff identify a common theme, which is then elaborated upon.
