On the night of December 4, 2014, in Sardinia's Sulcis Iglesiente area, artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò led a ritual involving ten local miners. Starting in the depths of the Nuraxi Figus mine, the miners traveled to Punta Trettu, where fishermen ferried them to Sant’Antioco Island. Upon arrival, a boat was set ablaze, symbolizing transformation, as the community gathered around the flames. This took place on Santa Barbara’s night, the patron saint of miners, marking a pivotal moment as the mines faced closure after a century of production. Blending political protest with pagan ritual, in girum imus nocte was more than a collective act. Ten years later, this book revisits its poetic, political, and anthropological resonance, tracing a circular path that resists a definitive ending.
