Watching dust settle symbolizes time passing. Each hand-copied notation in this collection is a memory imprinted by different people, read and re-read, adding new layers of meaning. Repeated copying, reading, and sharing gradually erodes the original marks, much like how time wears things down to dust. The book features 43 images from 127 hand-copied Chinese music scores, processed through scanning, enlarging, color inversion, and Risograph printing. Artist Hong Shu-ying recontextualizes found images and materials to explore patterns and contradictions in learning and inheritance. The book is top-bound with two pieces of stiff board backing that allows it to stand like a calendar, where the book can be ‘read’ very slowly over a year.
