Produced in conjunction with a 2016 exhibition at Ameringer McEnery Yohe gallery in New York, this volume presents a body of work created in response to Brian Alfred’s month-long trip to Japan, during which he researched a project for Japan Railways to make animations related to the Niigata region for a high-speed rail service. The simple, colourful, and highly evocative paintings are all small works on canvas that reproduce views which the artist encountered while exploring the Japanese countryside and its cities and towns. The book includes an essay by Sarah K. Rich and a conversation between Alfred and Eric Shiner, director of the Andy Warhol Museum.
