Hannah van Bart’s paintings are not portraits. And yet, like a portrait, most of the Dutch artist’s paintings depict a single figure, characterised through their appearance, posture, clothing, gaze, and telling details. Her style is layered, searching, rough at times, and leans towards expressionism.
