This catalogue for an exhibition at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan exhaustively explores the life, work and inspiration of the storied and prolific Italian painter, sculptor, interior decorator and engraver Piero Fornasetti. Curated by his son, Barnaba, who continues to design in his father’s name, it includes hundreds of examples of his work, which was heavily influenced by Greek and Roman architecture, and often featured a woman’s face, opera singer Lina Cavalieri, as a motif. Fornasetti’s bold, whimsical and sometimes insubordinate designs are reproduced here along with numerous archival photographs, plus texts by Ginevra Quadrio Curzio and Patrick Mauriès.
