Loosely translated as ‘Grief and Sorrow’, ‘Duelos y Quebrantos’ is a traditional dish from Castilla La Mancha. Historically, it was offered to those who had converted to Christianity, symbolising the break with their ancient religion. Between 2013 and 2018, Sebastián Bruno walked 2,500km through the central Spanish regions of Cuenca, Ciudad Real, Guadalajara, and Toledo. He positions himself as a modern Don Quixote, taking the route from the book ‘Don Quijote de La Mancha.’ Bruno’s black and white photographs offer a glimpse into the everyday lives of the people in this territory, and how their values and traditions have survived the passage of time.
