In 2018, on the initiative of Yoko Andersson Yamano, a glass artist based in Sweden, a project began in which eighteen artists from Japan and Sweden painted still lifes of glassware produced by Yamano. Each ordered custom pieces of glassware and then painted the objects in their own individual artistic style. The resulting book comprises photographs of both Yamano’s glass pieces and the still life artworks, all shot by photographer Masahiro Sambe in the artists’ respective studios, with graphic design by Yuri Suyama. Overall the project offers a reflection on traditional painting subjects combined with methods of artistic cross-pollination between the different mediums.
