Julie Chovin photographed around 220 nightclubs scattered throughout Berlin – from 1a Lauschgift to Berghain, from Puro Sky Lounge to Zur Klappe. Looking head-on at the facades and locked club doors, Chovin captures her subjects in daylight. Her focus is on the exterior facades and inconspicuous entrances that line the streets. Through this focus, the clubs become part of an everyday urban environment rather than staged as places of raucous ecstasy. Some no longer exist-or will soon fall victim to gentrification.
