This volume by Denise Bertschi and Pedro Zylbersztajn accompanies a short film of the same name, primarily shot at Parque das Neblinas, a former eucalyptus farm in São Paulo, Brazil, now run by Suzano’s Ecofuturo Institute. The film premiered at CAN Centre d’Art Neuchâtel in September 2024. Both artists explore themes of consumption and exhaustion; knowledge and nourishment; (im)productive monocultures; and infrastructures of export and displacement, reflecting on their countries’ (Brazil and Switzerland) intertwined histories. This book distils 18 months of their collaboration. Alongside stills and the full essay from the film, the artists invited contributions from Aline Motta, Daniel Frota de Abreu, Jandir JR., Walla Capelobo, and Zainabu Jallo. Their texts engage with the research, sharing the hope of revitalising colonially depleted landscapes into fertile ground for new imaginaries.
