Michel Medinger is a self-taught artist whose references range from Dadaism and the surrealist legacy to classical Dutch painting. He initially had a passion for painting, before devoting himself to photography from the 1960s onward. Each of his photographs is the result of a carefully developed staging. Each is composed from his fabulous and fanciful collection of objects accumulated over the years. The strange and incongruous associations he imagines create surprising, sometimes disturbing images, where fantasy, eroticism, and death coexist. ‘Lord of Things’ presents Medinger’s little-known works, accompanied by texts from Cyrille Putman, Florence Reckinger-Taddeï, and Paul di Felice.
