Since 2003, Franco-Algerian artist Mohamed Bourouissa has been developing a multidisciplinary practice rooted in social reality, working primarily with representations of a contemporary urban environment. This catalogue is published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Barnes Foundation that gathers his most significant works to date and features approximately 85 works, including drawings, photos, costumes, sculptures, and a video. Bourouissa is interested in the stereotypes associated with geographic and social spaces, a perspective which is further illuminated in this publication in a conversation with the artist and Okwui Enwezor.
