In recent years, the convergence of political, ecological, and health crises has made breathing a privilege. Air pollution’s unequal impact, the suppression of certain populations (“I Can’t Breathe”), and airborne threats like viruses highlight its precarious nature. In museums, air plays a critical role. Art preservation demands carefully controlled air, creating a distinct atmosphere separate from the outside world. The exhibition Air de repos (Breathwork) explores whether we can breathe differently within the museum, reimagining it as a “rest area.” Centered on a “museum without images,” the show challenges visual dominance, aiming to relieve retinal fatigue. Featuring installations, ready-mades, and sound works, it presents sculpture as something that breathes. The catalogue, a double vinyl and 96-page book, includes contributions from 28 artists, extending the exhibition’s themes.
