Serotonin is a mood-modulating neurotransmitter linked in particular to the state of happiness. It is composed of ten carbon atoms (C), twelve hydrogen atoms (H), two nitrogen atoms (N) and one oxygen atom (O). Michel Houellebecq's book, Sérotonine, was published in January, 2019. In 2020, in a chemical and poetic gesture, François Mangeol appropriated Michel Houellebecq's text and reduced it to only the letters representing the chemical symbols composing serotonin: C for carbon, H for hydrogen, N for nitrogen and O for oxygen which, isolated and floating over the 351 pages of the book, serve as an echo of our difficult quest to find happiness.
