Graphic designer Elena Etter invites us to think about writing in different ways, as well as outside of the scope of literary practice. This book is a collection of rewritings accomplished through listening and attentiveness, and acts as both an experiment in writing and a record of some sort. Gathered over the years, initially with no explicit purpose, the collection amounts to more than the sum of its parts. It could perhaps be called “uncreative writing”, a term conceived by Kenneth Goldsmith, where the emphasis is on doing something over. The book thus serves as an introspective exercise for the designer – one which argues that we do not passively receive information, but actively generate it.
